    Craft:  Watermelon Tambourine

Supplies: small paper plates, crayons/markers, (large) beans, and stapler

Directions: Have the children color 2 small paper plates to look like watermelon slices (green rind, red fruit, black seeds).  Put beans inside the plates and staple them together.

Hints:  Use larger beans and generous stapling to avoid the beans’ escape from the tambourine.  We used kidney beans.  We also had the kids color just one plate, put beans inside, and stapled closed…smaller + easier to grip for little hands.

    Craft: Fireworks Art (from FamilyFun.com)

Supplies: Acrylic paint, drinking straw, paintbrush, paper or card stock, water, glitter (optional)

Directions: For each color, in a paper cup, dilute some acrylic paint with water to a runny consistency. Using a paintbrush, drip a few drops of paint onto a piece of paper or card stock (be sure to rinse the brush between colors), then hold a drinking straw directly over each puddle of paint and blow gently to create a spectacular starburst effect.  Sprinkle glitter over the wet paint, and let dry.
